Joshua R. Cohen, PhD
Josh has long had a fascination with the relationship between the brain and behavior. After earning his doctorate in psychology at the University of Michigan, he completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan Hospital in Rehabilitation Psychology and Neuropsychology where he used his knowledge of the brain – behavior relationship to help patients. He brings a similar interest in the brain-behavior relationship to the field of mindfulness. Josh has practiced mindfulness meditation since 2008 and continues to pursue training in mindfulness practices. He incorporated mindfulness into interventions with patients while working in adult and children’s hospitals, and continues to involve mindfulness in the work he now does with people in private practice. In 2018, he and Erin Mendoza founded the Two Rivers Mindfulness Institute in Red Bank, NJ. Through the Institute, Josh has co-led several mindfulness based courses, including Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), community sits, mindfulness training of teachers at a school system, continuing education events, and others. Josh has earned qualifications in a system developed by Brown University mindfulness researcher and neuroscientist, Dr. Judson Brewer, that combines mindfulness and behavioral neuroscience to facilitate habit change.
